A law firm in Houston that has developed a program for gun owners called Texas Law Shield and will basically be on retainer for you for $.37/day.  If you are interested in protecting yourself and your family "after the bang" I suggest you look into this.

They're a firm of lawyers out of Houston that are CHL'ers themselves and ardent supporters of the 2nd Amendment.  They have experience with actual cases and have real world experience defending CHL hlders who were  involved in justifiable self defense shootings.

Coverage includes: Grand Jury trial (which will require prepping by an attorney), Criminal Trial, AND Civil Trial.   That is what makes Texas Law Shield different....they're the only ones out there that cover you completely.  The only exception is that if you case requires an expert witness, those fees are not included.

There is a $19.95 one time set up fee which will never be charged again at renewal time.

5 Things To Do After A
"Use of Force or Deadly Force" Situation

                  1.  Call 911 first

                  2.  The dispatcher will ask you what you need.  Tell the dispatcher you need police, and paramedics  if you or someone else is injured.

                  3.
The dispatcher may ask you what has happened. DO NOT TELL THE DISPATCHER ANYTHING other than that you need the police and the paramedics.  You phone call is being recorded, and your statements to the dispatcher could be used against you in court.

                  4.  Your next call is to your Lawyer.

                  5.  When the police arrive on scene provide them your identification including your Driver's License, Concealed Handgun License AND your Texas Law Shield Membership Card.  Your Lawyer will stay on the line with you.
                  Be
cooperative with the officer, you want the officer to remember you are the victim.  Your Lawyer will request to speak to the officer on your behalf and help you through this situation.

                REMEMBER...
If you are not able to call your Lawyer right away,
you have 72 hours to sign a written statement.
DO NOT SIGN YOUR STATEMENT WITHOUT LEGAL COUNSEL
